Description :
In the United States, the law firm Cohn Lifland Pearlman Herrmann and Knopf recently fell victim to a ransomware attack carried out by the cybercriminal group Akira, exposing a significant breach of client trust and confidentiality. The attackers accessed and claimed to have taken 110 GB of sensitive files, which included an alarming range of personal information such as passports, driver’s licenses, birth and death certificates, and private correspondence, along with addresses and contacts. Additionally, the hackers obtained extensive internal documentation, including confidential financial statements concerning the firm itself. Notably, despite having an active cyber insurance policy, the firm declined to pay the ransom, raising questions about their commitment to protecting client data. The hackers announced their intent to upload the stolen files shortly, posing a serious risk to those affected.
